On the Day of the Commemoration of the Victims of the Genocide of the Jews of Lithuania, Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus and Israeli President Moshe Katsav took part in a solemn tribute at Paneriai,  where more than 70,000 Jews were exterminated during the Second World War. This was the culminating point of M.Katsav's visit to Lithuania.

President Moshe Katsav met with the country's Jewish community on Sept. 22 at the Taharot ha-Kodesh synagogue. The meeting was organized by the Lithuanian Jewish Community and the Lithuanian and Vilnius Jewish Religious Community. Representatives from all the regional Jewish communities gathered at the synagogue.
