WIZO Lithuania was set up in 1990 by the General meeting of Lithuanian Jewish women with participation and active support of the representatives of WIZO Sweden.
Nearly 50 women joined the organization. Differently from WIZO organizations in the West that support various Israeli children and women's institutions, objectives of the WIZO Lithuania are preservation of the values of Judaism, active participation in the life of the Jewish Community of Lithuania (JCL). The organization cherishes Jewish traditions and holidays, commemorates the main dates in the history of Jewish people. Soon one of the main fields of organization’s activities became welfare. In co-operation with JCL WIZO women began research and registration of the needy Lithuanian Jews. The results of this co-operation are more than obvious: the organization has developed a data base of the needy, WIZO women carry out regular visits to those who need medical care, they also distribute various charity things, such as clothes, medicines, food. At the moment WIZO Lithuania has a network of sponsors, implement charitable work, celebrate Jewish holidays, maintain relations with other Jewish organizations in Lithuania and abroad.
WIZO women are volunteers devoted to one goal — provide selfless help to the needy and the sick.
